The Process Engineer - Surface Protection role  will be the technical subject matter expert on the processes run within the paintshop production department . They will be expected to determine the most effective method(s) of processing while improving cycle times, reducing downtime, lowering cost, and driving improvements within the assigned Paint processes . Collaborating and supporting New Product Introduction, Quality, Design and Processes in line with the company’s strategy and Key Performance Indicators .
The role will be leading all Problem solving topics in order to raise the overall Paint quality ensuring the continued performance of the process.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities: 

 

  • Develop and update all technical documentation related to the Paint layup of new projects 

  • Ensures product and process quality and efficiency through appropriate inspection and continuous improvement problem solving activities

  • Develops, designs and plans equipment and machine layouts, workflow, and safety precautions to maximize utilization related to Surface protection processes  

  • Evaluates worker productivity and recommends improvements to increase workforce efficiency and operating performance, reduce waste and delays, and promote cost control/reductions 

  • Resolves technical problems and recommends production improvement based on company OKR’s 

  • Support and troubleshoot issues within the paint process using problem solving methodologies  

  • Support area project planning, equipment procurement, implementation and follow-up

  • Lead discussions with external vendors and various cross-functional teams 

  • Support to bonding process development

  • Manage the introduction of new colours and surface finishings defined by the program team

  • Regularly report the progress of ongoing projects to management

  • Other related duties as assigned

 

Skills and Competencies : 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering
  • Experience with high-performance cars with complex painting systems (fading, masking…) on organic substrates (Carbon Fibre-Epoxy)./Direct experience in validating and developing automotive-grade finishings
  • 8D and 5Why corrective action and problem solving skills
  • Lean Tools – 5S, Kanban, Poka-yoke, and Value Stream Mapping.
  • Deep understanding of materials and their chemistry, including the ability to develop and enhance material attributes and properties
  • Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Catia, SolidWorks)
  • Knowledge of ISO and ATSM standards for Surface coating measurements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills/Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with keen attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive in a start-up environment
