Rimac Energy are a small independent organisation, currently around 70 employees, within the wider Rimac Group. We are focussed on bringing advanced and innovative power conversion systems and battery management systems to the rapidly growing and evolving battery energy storage industry.
The Engineering Department of Rimac Energy is split into three major areas, Software, Hardware and Engineering Operations. Rimac Energy are currently seeking a Head of Hardware who will lead the hardware team (15-20 engineers) covering both electrical and mechanical disciplines.
The individual will be directly responsible for architecting and delivering products from concept all the way through to mass production. Focussing on continuous attribute improvement, cost-reduction, design-for-manufacture etc. It’s desirable the individual have experience certifying power-electronics systems for mass production, be it in the BESS, solar, automotive or other sectors.
This role is a leadership position within the organisation and thus responsibilities extend well beyond the day-to-day. Rimac Energy is a young and growing organisation and the Head of Hardware will be directly involved in overall business strategy and investment into the growth of our people, facilities and capabilities.
Responsibilities
Line-management of the 15-20 electrical and mechanical engineers within the hardware department.
Manage the budget for the Hardware Team, used for proto builds, test equipment, software licenses etc.
Coordinate the development, prototyping and testing approach, focussing on rapid iterative improvement while managing risks of change.
Be the key technical authority for all decisions related to the hardware design.
Develop and improve internal processes, working closely with the Quality and Project Management teams.
Collaborate with our manufacturing partners and suppliers to ensure a smooth transition from prototype into mass production.

Requirements
Degree in Engineering, Physics, or other mathematically focussed subject
10 or more years of experience in a relevant role
Experience developing power electronics systems (inverters, DCDCs, etc) or Battery Management Systems
Cross-disciplined (mechanical and electrical) technical competence. Can be either predominantly electrical or predominantly mechanical background.
Considered as an Advantage
Understanding of electrical safety standards required for product certification (UL 1741, IEC 62477 etc).
Experience designing for EMC, ensuring compliance to IEC 61000 and similar standards.
Experience with engineering requirements-capture tools (eg JAMA)
Experience with project management tools (eg JIRA) for day-to-day task management and issue logging
Experience/appreciation of CAD tools (eg. Dassault 3DX)
Experience/appreciation of PCB design tools (eg. Altium)
Experience/appreciation of various simulation tools for system design (eg PLECS, Simulink etc)
As a leading member of the team, expectation is for in-office working at least 4 days per week.
