Commissioning Engineer​

Tasks

Regular tasks

    • Vehicle Commissioning Activities: Execute commissioning activities during prototype (XP) and pre-series (VP) phases, ensuring readiness and correct functionality of vehicle systems.

    • Labcar Setup & Commissioning: Configure and commission labcar environments, performing flashing of ECUs with required software versions and verifying startup sequences.

    • Diagnostics & System Check: Use diagnostic tools to read/clear DTCs, reset fault memory, and validate correct behavior of system states.

    • Signal & Bus Verification: Confirm availability and validity of key signals (sensor inputs, actuator outputs) and verify communication over CAN, LIN, and Ethernet networks.

    • Vehicle Readiness & Handover: Conduct vehicle readiness assessments using structured checklists, and sign off before vehicle handover.

    • Issue Identification & Reporting: Identify and report issues during commissioning phases, ensuring traceability and follow-up actions.

    • Technical Reporting: Support the program with regular reporting on test status, technical issues, and commissioning progress.

Occasional tasks

    • Support test and integration activities on other facilities or vehicles as required.

    • Deputize for the team leader or manager when necessary.

    • Act as mentor or support for junior team members in technical and process-related topics.

Responsibilities

  • System Readiness & Validation: Ensure full system readiness through structured startup procedures, signal validation, and diagnostics during vehicle commissioning.

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering, Vehicle Technology, and Integration teams to harmonize processes and resolve issues.

  • Technical Delivery: Take ownership of deliverables and maintain high quality and accuracy in vehicle commissioning outputs.

  • Methodology & Compliance: Ensure test methods and reports follow company policies, HR guidelines, and functional safety/regulatory requirements.

  • Process Improvement: Contribute to continuous improvement of commissioning processes, tools, and documentation.

  • Team Development: Support development and motivation of team members, promoting a culture of excellence and accountability.

Required skills and competencies

  • Vehicle Commissioning Expertise: Proven experience in commissioning vehicles within an OEM or Tier 1 context, preferably in motorsport or low-volume production environments.

  • Diagnostics & Bus Communication: Strong ability to use tools for ECU flashing, DTC handling, and communication analysis on CAN, LIN, and Ethernet.

  • Technical Knowledge: Solid background in electronics, embedded systems, EE and vehicle diagnostics. Knowledge of ECUs, startup logic, and system integration is required.

  • Program Management & Reporting: Ability to manage multiple technical inputs, summarize findings, and present structured reports to cross-functional teams.

  • Tools Proficiency: Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), SharePoint, MS Project, MS Teams and Outlook. Familiarity with CANoe, CANalyzer and other OEM-specific diagnostic tools.

  • Soft Skills & Delivery Focus: Strong communication, problem-solving, and team-working skills. Ability to work autonomously, handle pressure, and deliver high-quality results on time.
